Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky residents it’s that time of year again…SPRING CLEANING. Every year we all get out the rubber gloves and get to scrubbing. On the list in most households includes a deep cleaning, de-cluttering, yard work and the annual yard sale. But what many people fail to pay attention to are the most expensive items in their homes.
Spring is a great time to have your water heater flushed — as most people do not realize this is something that is required to keep your warranty valid and should be done once per year at the least professionally. Sediment builds up at a rate of about 2 pounds per year in an average water heater meaning it runs less efficiently and costs the home owner quite a bit more.
Something else that needs your attention is your sump pump. Many times they are in a pit and are covered in water, dirt and gravel. This should be checked at least yearly and many times people do not know that a battery back up system will ensure that a person will not end up with a costly water restoration bill, as the back-up makes sure that a sump pump is ready and waiting once the primary pump goes out. Additionally, the check valve and primary pump needs to checked to ensure it is still running properly and vented out to push water out of the area and away from the house.
